🌱 How to Plant and Care Instructions
- Unboxing: Gently unpack the sapling. Let it rest in a bright, shaded spot for 1–2 days before repotting to reduce transplant shock.
- Pot Selection: Use a 5–7 inch pot with excellent drainage holes. Anthurium prefers slightly snug pots — avoid oversized containers that hold excess moisture.
- Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix — potting soil + perlite + orchid bark (2:1:1). Anthurium roots need excellent aeration and drainage to prevent root rot.
- Planting: Place the sapling in the center of the pot. Gently firm the soil around the roots. Water lightly after planting.
- Sunlight: Needs bright indirect light — 4–6 hours daily. An east or west-facing window with a sheer curtain is ideal. Avoid direct harsh sunlight which scorches the waxy leaves and bleaches the blooms.
- Watering: Water once every 7–10 days in summer and once every 14 days in winter. Let the top 1–2 inches of soil dry between waterings. Anthurium is sensitive to overwatering — always check soil moisture before watering!
- Humidity: Loves high humidity of 60–80%. Mist leaves and aerial roots 2–3 times a week, use a pebble tray, or place near a humidifier. High humidity = more blooms and glossier leaves!
- Fertilizing: Feed with a phosphorus-rich liquid fertilizer (half strength) once every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. High phosphorus encourages more flower production.
- Bloom Care: Remove spent flowers (brown, wilted spathes) at the base to encourage the plant to produce new blooms. Each new stem tip can produce a new flower!
- Aerial Roots: Anthurium produces aerial roots above the soil — do not remove them! Mist them regularly or tuck them gently into the soil to help the plant absorb extra moisture.
- Temperature: Thrives between 18°C–30°C. Keep away from cold drafts, AC vents, and temperatures below 12°C.
- Repotting: Repot every 2 years in spring when roots start emerging from drainage holes.
🏠 Indoor or Outdoor?
Anthurium is a dedicated INDOOR plant — and one of the finest flowering houseplants in the world!
- 🪟 Indoor (Highly Recommended): Perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and bathrooms with good light. Thrives in the warm, humid conditions of Indian homes.
- 🌤️ Outdoor (Shaded spots only): Can be placed on shaded balconies in warm, humid weather. Must be protected from direct sun, strong winds, and heavy rain.
- ⚠️ Important: All parts of the Anthurium plant are toxic to pets (cats and dogs) and humans if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep away from pets and small children. Wash hands after handling.
