🌱 How to Plant and Care Instructions
- Unboxing: Gently unpack the sapling. Let it rest in a bright, shaded spot for 1 day before repotting.
- Pot Selection: Use a 4–6 inch pot with excellent drainage holes. Snake Plants prefer slightly snug pots — avoid oversized containers that hold excess moisture. Terracotta pots are ideal!
- Soil: Use a well-draining succulent/cactus mix — potting soil + coarse sand + perlite (1:1:1). Never use heavy, moisture-retaining soil!
- Planting: Place the sapling in the center of the pot. Gently firm the soil around the base. Do not water for 3–5 days after repotting.
- Sunlight: Thrives in any light condition — from bright indirect light to very low light. Best growth and most vivid leaf banding in bright indirect light. Can survive in near-dark conditions but grows very slowly.
- Watering: Water once every 14–21 days in summer and once every 4–6 weeks in winter. Always let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the ONLY way to kill a Snake Plant!
- The Golden Rule: When in doubt, don’t water! The Snake Plant will always forgive underwatering but will never forgive overwatering.
- Humidity: Adaptable to any humidity level — from very dry to moderately humid. No misting required.
- Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer (half strength) once every 6–8 weeks during spring and summer only. Do not fertilize in winter.
- Propagation: Cut a healthy leaf into sections and place in water or soil — new plants will root within 4–6 weeks! One plant can become many!
- Temperature: Thrives between 15°C–35°C. Keep away from temperatures below 10°C and frost.
- Repotting: Repot every 3–5 years — Snake Plants actually bloom and produce pups (baby plants) most prolifically when slightly root-bound!
🏠 Indoor or Outdoor?
Snake Plant thrives in BOTH indoor and outdoor settings!
- 🪟 Indoor (Most Popular): Perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, offices, dark corners, and hallways. The ultimate low-maintenance indoor plant for any space and any light condition.
- 🌤️ Outdoor (Shaded spots): Thrives on shaded balconies and patios in India’s warm climate. Protect from direct harsh afternoon sun which causes leaf scorch, and from heavy rain and frost.
- 🙏 Vastu Placement: Place at the entrance, south, or east direction of your home or office for protection against negative energy and to attract positive vibrations.
- ⚠️ Important: Snake Plant is mildly toxic to pets (cats and dogs) if ingested. Keep away from pets and small children.
